AI-based image generation takes a leap to a new level
In less than six months, AI-based image generation has advanced to a level where the output can be used for more than just experimentation. In fact, a large portion of communication and marketing images can now be produced using AI, significantly reducing the costs of marketing & communication departments and image agencies.
When anticipating the development of a phenomenon in the near future, it is evident that the production of visual content will undergo a significant transformation and disrupt the traditional market. It can also be predicted that within a year, we will witness the next generation of AI-based solutions that generate also moving images/videos very well.
A few days ago, Midjourney announced the release of their new AI-based image generation solution, now in version 5, with impressive features. Techspot writes: "Midjourney 5 improves almost every aspect of AI generated images. While it's still possible to get weird output, MJ5 vastly improves image quality". Midjourney's announcement 17th March stated: "Starting today our community can test Midjourney V5. It has much higher image quality, more diverse outputs, wider stylistic range, support for seamless textures, wider aspect ratios, better image prompting, wider dynamic range and more. Let’s explore!"
Many others are also in the same field, such as OpenAI's DALL-E, which is also rapidly evolving. Video generation is also of interest to Meta and Google, and research has been conducted on the topic for some time (examples here and here). As research and product development progress, we will undoubtedly see some very interesting products. Imagine being able to say, "Hey Google, generate a 20-minute bedtime story video for children that is not too exciting and encourages them to get ready for school in the morning."
Many developers also want to ensure the ethical use of their products. In addition, copyright issues will still become clearer in many ways, although the basic guidelines are already quite clear: the general direction seems to be that AI can freely use the source material of other works. Thus, it is not just about technology development projects. Interestingly, there is even more sensitivity towards AI-based voice processing and cloning than towards image material.
By the way, all images on the Foresight & Insight website and social media channels have been created with Midjourney solution.
